The Glorious 'Before' Pictures (Warning: some photos are graphic) (7)
These pictures were taken in January of 2004, the week before I finally got rid of that tired old foot. In chapters 36-44 you can read about what I was feeling and thinking as I took these pictures - just 24 hours before my foot was cut off. -
The Early Days 'After'. (7)
Once the surgery was over there was a long wait for stitches to heal. I couldn't wait to get that new foot, one that would give me energy return with every step. No more dragging around that old leg brace. -
Finally a New Leg (16)
After months in bed it was finally time to see Joe and get my first bionic leg. Those stories can be found in chapters 49 - 53. -
Childhood (9)
As a kindergartener I was the middle child in a regular family of five children. By first grade life had turned upside down as my parents began taking in many, many foster children (chapters 1 through 11). -
College (9)
Where I found my voice, my lifetime mate, and a love of biking. Check it out in chapters 14 -17. -
The Pin in the Toe Story (3)
You will definitely want to read chapter 16 to catch the details of this story. -
The Early Married Years (5)
Fresh out of college, ready to make my mark on the world. -
The First Two (10)
A dream realized - to have healthy, adorable babies. -
And Then There Were Three (14)
With number three came more joy, and then uncertainty, as our newborn became deathly ill with an undiagnosed illness. His story is in chapters 22 - 24. -
Finishing Up With Four (8)
While we still lived in Missouri, we rounded out the family with one more baby boy. -
Living in D.C. and Pennsylvania (14)
Nine months after 9/11 we moved to Washington D.C. and spent a year exploring. A lot happened that year (besides the sniper, a blizzard and a security level constantly set on red). The stories of exploding casts and free samples of chocolate are in chapters 27-34. -
Because Now I Can (37)
So many things to do and places to go, once I had a leg that could keep up. -
Hard Hike (6)
When my dad and stepmom came to visit us in Utah, a few months after I got my new leg, I was thrilled to go on a simple hike with them. We started on a new trail which slowly turned into a long, steep, rock covered slope. There was a beautiful lake at the top but it was one of the hardest hikes I've ever done. -
Zion National Park (5)
Living in a beautiful state like Utah inspired me to get out there and explore with my family. This was a quick trip we took to southern Utah, six months after my surgery. I loved being 'able'! -
Four Corners Trip (7)
When Jeff's work trip took him to southern Utah, we decided to tag along. -
Skiing (14)
Ahhh! Skiing! It was on the top of my list of sports I wanted to try with my new leg. Here are some pictures to go along with the stories from chapters 54 through 58. -
Family Pictures (19)
Some pictures to let you see these people I talk about in the book. My children knew what it was like to live with a mom who struggled with mobility for years. They loved joining me as I tried all the new activities that opened up with my new leg.
