A happy little five year old, when we still lived in a normal house, on a normal street, and I had two strong legs and feet.

The five Johnson kids with our first foster sibling, a tall friendly boy named Danny. Right after he came to stay with us, we moved to the big house in the country and life changed dramatically.
-
Not long after our move to the country the number of foster care placements increased quickly. At the beginning of my first grade year a local newspaper reporter came out to the farm to take pictures and write an extensive article about my parents, and our family.

Another shot of our newly expanded family. This turned out to be the smallest our family would be for several years.

It took a lot of cooking (then dishwashing) to keep our huge gang fed. Even the little ones helped out.

One scared little girl, who is just beginning to realize her foot is not growing right. I lost the ability to run at this age.
-
My one and only year of pretending like I had two normal feet, and trying out for the basketball team. I probably would have played better if I'd had my eyes closed on the court too.
